This month we’re celebrating one full year of being 100% owned by our employees, following Environet’s conversion to an Employee Ownership Trust in July 2020. And what a year it’s been.

Research by the Employee Ownership Association (EOA) indicates that companies owned by their staff tend to perform around 12% better than their competitors, but Environet’s first year with our team at the helm has delivered an incredible 55% increase in turnover – and that’s in the midst of a global pandemic.

There’s no doubt that owning a stake in the business you work for brings a particular kind of commitment, enthusiasm and ‘Dunkirk spirit’, which has driven our business through the challenges of lockdown and enabled us to continue to thrive and grow. Being employee-owned is also proving to be a valuable selling point in terms of recruitment, helping us attract the highest calibre of staff with six new team members joining us over the last twelve months.

Because our staff have a stake in the business, they are rightfully rewarded for their efforts and are more committed and engaged than ever – and motivated to do an even better job for you, the customer. It’s reassuring to see that customer satisfaction is also at an all-time high, with 99% of TrustPilot reviews rating Environet either “Excellent” or “Great”, giving us a coveted 5 stars.

I was always convinced that employee-ownership would ensure the future prosperity of the business, and now I’m more certain that ever that it was the right decision.
