As 2021 draws to a close it’s a good time to reflect on another unusual year which has seen a booming housing market, thanks to a rush of pandemic-induced home moves fuelled by the stamp duty holiday. An increase in property transactions always translates to a rise in enquiries for us, as knotweed is discovered and flagged up by sellers, prompting surveys and treatment.
We’ve experienced the busiest year in our 25-year history, and with the pandemic continuing to evolve, we’ve seamlessly adopted new ways of working to help our customers with all their invasive plant needs safely and efficiently.
We’ve seen growing demand for our detection dog surveys, as word about this unique service continues to spread through the media and from word-of-mouth recommendations. We’ve added to our canine team with the recruitment of black cocker spaniel rescue dog Buddy, who is out and about with Mick and Mack sniffing out knotweed for homeowners up and down the country.
We’re pleased to say our human team continues to grow too. We’re lucky to have welcomed Amber, Joshua, Aiden, Liam, Joe, Hannah, Maria and Ben to Environet in 2021, helping us improve our service levels and cover more of the country than ever before.
We also secured a patent for our method of converting the plant waste we excavate from the ground into biochar, capturing the carbon collected by the plants during their lifetime and locking it away in the soil. This has huge potential for making our industry more sustainable, enabling us to do away with environmentally harmful landfill disposal in the future and helping in the fight against climate change.
