As 2021 draws to a close it’s a good time to reflect on another unusual year which has seen a booming housing market, thanks to a rush of pandemic-induced home moves fuelled by the stamp duty holiday. An increase in property transactions always translates to a rise in enquiries for us, as knotweed is discovered and flagged up by sellers, prompting surveys and treatment.

Our research shows that the blight of Japanese knotweed has wiped an estimated £11.8 billion off the current value of the UK housing market, as it continues to spread across the country making homes more difficult to sell.

For some time, our R&D team have been working hard to develop an environmentally friendly way of dealing with Japanese knotweed waste, and now we’re excited to announce that our method of converting excavated knotweed into biochar has been patented.
