Project Overview
Our clients in Send, Woking, contacted our team to survey extensive bamboo growth between their garden and the neighbouring property. Having been planted decades ago, the bamboo had subsequently spread along the fence, boundary and around the shed.
Works Undertaken: October 2025
Area affected: >21m2 including runners
Challenge
The bamboo was growing into the gravel, through planted border and grown under the boundary fence, encroaching into the neighbouring garden with the rhizomes spreading under the neighbour’s patio pushing up slabs with emerging shoots.
Solution
To prevent further spread and damage, our team carried out a mechanical excavation across both properties, which included:
- Carefully removing fence panels and concrete gravel boards, raking gravel to one side to be reused.
- Using an 0.8T excavator to systematically remove the bamboo, starting with the main hedge along the boundary.
- Removing extensive bamboo runners from along the fence line and from under patio slabs in the neighbouring property, and from within the flowerbed.
- Chemically treating small runners which were found under the neighbour’s shed concrete base that were impracticable to remove.
- Large amounts of ivy were also removed from along the boundary.
Outcome
The initial excavation was successfully completed, removing all visible signs of bamboo growth.
To ensure long-term effectiveness:
- We will return for the first of two scheduled monitoring visits in the spring to check for any signs of regrowth.
- Our clients opted for a five-year insurance-backed guarantee, providing further peace of mind against potential re-emergence.
By taking swift and thorough action, we helped our clients reclaim their outdoor space while preventing further spread to neighbouring properties.
What our client had to say
Helpful and courteous from beginning to end! It was quite daunting to think of removing the bamboo which was acting as a boundary with my neighbours. But with the sound advice from Environet it was agreed to remove it and we are very grateful for the professional and careful way the work was carried out. It is a relief to know that we are now clear from the rhizomes that were becoming intrusive. Tricia, Feefo.
