DART™ (Dual Action Residential Treatment)
DART™ is a specialist Japanese knotweed removal method designed specifically for residential properties. It combines targeted removal of crowns and superficial rhizome with a structured herbicide treatment programme, providing a fast, cost-effective and minimally disruptive solution.
DART™ gives homeowners the advantages of both excavation and herbicide without the cost of full excavation or the long timescales of herbicide alone.
When DART™ is used
DART™ is ideal for residential sites where:
- fast and cost-effective removal is required
- minimal disruption is preferred
- herbicide treatment alone would take too long
- excavation is possible, but full removal is unnecessary
- garden use needs to be maintained through spring and summer
- access allows for small-scale mechanical excavation
It is not suitable where the ground will undergo major future disturbance, such as full extensions, large excavations or structural landscaping. In these cases, Resi-Dig-Out™ is usually the better option.

How DART™ works
DART™ uses a staged approach:
- Targeted crown and rhizome removal
The majority of crowns and rhizome are removed using small-scale excavation. This significantly reduces the plant’s vigour and exposes any remaining fragments. - Follow-up herbicide treatments
Regrowth from the remaining rhizome is encouraged and then treated during the summer months using a controlled herbicide programme. - Monitoring and retreatment
Monitoring ensures that any returning shoots are treated promptly.
This dual-action method gives homeowners a balance between speed, cost and effectiveness.
Benefits of DART™
DART™ provides several advantages for homeowners:
- quicker than herbicide-only treatment
- less expensive than full excavation
- minimal disruption (usually carried out in winter)
- effective across a wide range of garden environments
- insurance-backed guarantee available
- safer and cleaner than attempting DIY removal
DART™ is designed specifically for residential use and is unique to Environet.
Timescales and guarantees
DART™ can be started at any time of year, though the crown removal stage is typically carried out outside of the growing season to minimise garden disruption.
It is supported by an insurance-backed guarantee underwritten by an AA- rated insurer for up to 10 years.
