The time has come to say a fond farewell to Bertie Seal, Director of Environet, who retired at the end of February after 27 years working alongside husband and co-founder Nic. Nic and Bertie, with the help of the team, built Environet into the flourishing business it is today. They transferred ownership of the business to the staff in 2020 and with the transition to employee ownership well underway and proving highly successful “handing over” was always part of the succession plan.
Back In 1996 when they started the business, very little was known or understood about Japanese knotweed in the UK, but Nic and Bertie quickly came to understand the damage knotweed can cause and the serious implications it posed for property owners and developers . The business has grown organically into one of the most respected and trusted specialists in Japanese knotweed and other invasive plants using eco-innovative methods and technology, now employing over 30 people.
Described by Nic as “an inspirational rock who has supported him throughout”, Bertie has been the driving force in growing awareness of Japanese knotweed, bamboo and other invasive plants, while cultivating our own brand and reputation through her work in marketing and PR. With a keen eye for a story angle and a knack for creative thinking, she was never short of ideas or the energy to make them happen.
Bertie, you will be sorely missed, but we all wish you fun and success in your next endeavours whilst making time for a peaceful retirement, full of long dog walks, cooking, swimming and Pilates!
